in an exhibition and also holds the
Victoria record on the clean and Nabba bodybuilder jerk with 400lb.
Nazio Grima tells me that many of Malta's top bodybuilders are still emigrating. Of course, Victor Vella and Tony Gambin, two top men known to us, came from Malta originally.
Italy Many of his admirers have asked what has become of Paul Wynter. Paul is managing a health studio, Ayax Club, in Milan, and was home for Xmas. He is very much hoping to be able to bring some of Italy's top bodybuilders to the N.A.B.B.A. Universe this year. He may even enter himself-who knows?
Paul is, of course, on hand if there should be any film work going in Italy.
He is missed by his many friends, but we all send to Paul our good wishes for his welfare and success.
Tony Holland, now in pantomime at Nottingham, continues his success with a booking on Blackpool's North Pier for the whole of the summer, June to October, in a star studded show.

NORTH BRITAIN CONTESTS AND
FINE SHOW AT HEBBURN
by O.H.
is
THE HEBBURN Technical College certainly a wonderful place for any show. It has everything from wonderful stage and lighting facilities to canteen and gym for judging. However, this does not necessarily make a good show, but Bill Masson and his wife and the members of the Power House Youth Club can certainly be congratulated on a very fine show in every
way.
This show was held over from the autumn because several times it clashed with other shows in this enthusiastic area. However, it was all the better for waiting except that numerically the entries were smaller than of late and the audience not quite so numerous or enthusiastic. Yet this show offered them the very best in the P.C. world.
The top physique spot was filled in a most popular way by Earl Maynard, current Professional Mr. Universe. Earl gave two very fine items of strength feats which included his favourite curls. He must be one of the best at this lift anywhere in the world and his posing, of course, brought calls for more.
He had to dash off to wrestle in Falkirk immediately he had made his second appearance.
The Mackins were able to find a spare date from their heavy professional bookings to attend the show. This is truly a great act and Margaret and David Mackin are really superb in every way.
Two sporting celebrities added to the glamour of the show, Monica Rutherford, British Ladies' Gymnastic Champion and Olympic Games representative and Britain's top diver Brian Phelps. We were delighted to have these top sporting personalities at one of our shows. Monica gave us some flawless floor exercises and Brian showed what a high gymnastic standard a top diver has to reach.
Ted Walker, British S.A.W.L. Middleweight Champion, made a 645lb. Olympic total as his opponent unfortunately could not compete owing to illness, but Arthur Baker gave him a breather between lifts with the very difficult one arm bent press and just failed with 170lb.
Arthur then went on to give a very good muscle control item, an item worthy of any show.

The Open Junior Novice Contest-there was an entry of seven and Malcolm Stringer's club made a clean sweep with the first two. Martin Brown, a sixteen-yearold, was a very worthy winner and will go a long way. Alan Henderson, of Darlington, was second, and Peter Gardner, of Middlesbrough, a fifteen-year-old with great promise, was third.
The Open Novice Contest. This was a very close contest with the smallest entry ever, only eight as against the usual thirty or so. The standard was very good and very close battle between Bill Green, of S. Shields, and Laurance Coulson, of Newcastle. I think Laurance was just beaten because he is a bit casual and ragged in his posing. Third place went to Charles Buchanan, of Wallsend, and fourth place Dick Bulman, of S. Shields.
The Mister N. Britain-An entry of seven and as expected a keen struggle between John Citrone and a much improved Bernard Bradford. This time Bernard, who has improved tremendously since the Wallsend show in the autumn, chased John. all the way, but John still made it. Third place went to a greatly improved Derek Yorston, of S. Shields. Derek has been trying very hard for a long time and of late his improvement has been phenomenal. He was so good that a place had to be found for him in the Britain final.
Matthew Watson, himself a Britainfinalist last year, had improved since the Wallsend show but could not quite beat Derek for third place.
Tommy Coates and Ronald Adams were well in the running also.
The Miss N. Britain. An entry of five and a really tough one to judge. Should it be glamour, figure or a mixture of everything? Judges seem to have a great variety of opinions, but Margaret Johnson, of Tynemouth, was a clear winner, with Connie Citrone (John's bride of but a week and formerly Connie Reilly) equal second with Hazel Watson, wife of Matthew Watson, I am told.
The judges for the contests were Malcolm Stringer, Max Briscoe, Norman Haddrick (excluding the "miss" as his fiancee was competing) and myself.
Stiff legged dead lift on reps. This item brought a good entry from the lads and the results shook even me. A 2001b. barbell and the winner, Eddie Walker, did 35 reps, Matthew Watson making 32, Laurance Coulson 30 and Doug Taylor 29; all great performances.
A word of praise to Tommy Carr, Bill Masson's very able stage manager, a very fine show. all Congratulations to concerned.
